Athletes strive to represent region

The Greater Germiston Schools Athletics Championship took place at Germiston Stadium on Monday, February 12.

Schools from Katlehong One that competed at Huntersfield Stadium on February 1 joined hands with schools from Katlehong Two and Katlehong Three to compete against schools from around Germiston.

According Tshabalala Primary School deputy principal Rebecca Lukhele, who is also the general secretary of the district executive committee, “the purpose of the event was to select athletes that are going to represent Greater Germiston when it plays against Greater Alberton and Greater Boksburg here in Germiston on February 23”.

She said the three greater towns will form a team that will represent the region.

“After the event on February 23, one solid team will be selected to participate at the regional level of the competition – then the provincial level, and after that the national level,” said Lukhele.

She said the dates and venues of these events are yet to be finalised.
