Dignity run and walk held in Thokoza
Egagasini Car Wash in Thokoza held a Dignity Run at Sam Ntuli Sports Complex on March 21. A walk of 5km also took place, while the run was 10km.
Fani Banda, the event organiser, said the purpose of the run is to raise funds to buy sanitary towels for the underprivileged school children.
“Our target is to buy at least 3 000 sanitary towels that we will donate in June to 10 different schools in the Kathorus area.
“Runners paid R10 participating fee. Some of the money was used to buy water for the athletes during the run,” said Banda.
Banda added that there will be more of these events before the donation will take place.
“This was the first installment of the Dignity Run which was held in line with Human Rights Day. We will continue to do so in the first week of April and May. Then in June we will go to schools and donate the sanitary towels to children in need,” Banda said.
He went on to add that they are working with a company in Germiston that produces recyclable sanitary towels so that they will last longer.
In conclusion, Banda thanked Ubuhle Athletics Club for participating.
