Vosloorus Cricket Club well represented at trials
The Eastern Cricket Union (ECU) held three-day trials for young cricketers at Willowmoore Sahara Park in Benoni recently.
The trials took place on Tuesday, May 1, for u-15 and u-17 players, on Saturday, May 5, for u-11 and u-13 players and on May 12 for young girls. There was no age category for the girls’ trials.
Vosloorus Cricket Club development coach Isaac Phele said the aim was to select squads to represent the ECU.
“There will be a squad for each and every category. What makes me more excited is that 22 players from Vosloorus Cricket Club were selected, four u-11, two u-13, five u-15, seven u-17 and four girls,” said Phele.
Young cricketers came all the way from Duduza, Tembisa, KwaThema, Vosloorus and Boksburg to take part in the trials.
Almost all the players from the Eastern Cricket League joined in as well.
Phele said 22 children under his supervision made it into the squad.
“It is an achievement for me. I would like to thank God for everything that He has done for me and for the young cricketers. I did not expect to have so many players in the squads,” Phele said.
