Action-packed football tournament held

Pure Stars Sports Development held the Excellent and Delightful Youth Day Football Tournament at Erwat Sports Field in Vosloorus on Friday, June 15.

Four teams took part in the tournament. They were Nageng and Polokehong primary schools, Extension Eight United and Kathorus Hyper Academy.

The first game was between Kathorus Hyper Academy and Extension Eight United.

Kathorus Hyper Academy won 9-0.

The second game was between Nageng Primary School and Polokehong Primary School.

Nageng Primary School won 4-1.

Kathorus Hyper Academy beat Nageng Primary School 3-2 in the finals.

Joseph Mlangeni, the organiser from Pure Stars Sports Development, said they were joining the fight against drugs through sports.

“We know that young people love sports, especially soccer. We have decided to gather them together here so that we can teach them about the danger of using drugs, while at the same time allowing them to play soccer, the sport that they love the most.

“I would like to thank our sponsors Sedilaka MICT Solutions and Isarail and DJ Fanatic,” said Mlangeni.

He said the tournament was a success.

“It went according to plan. Teachers allowed children to take part. Spectators came in their numbers to watch the games,” said Mlangeni.

Tshidiso Mofokeng, the coach of the winning team, Kathorus Hyper Academy, said he was impressed with the way his team performed.

“The tournament gave my players the necessary game time to show their talent. The players themselves were happy to be part of the tournament,” said Mofokeng.

“I wish the organisers can continue to arrange more tournaments like this,” he added.

The winning goals were scored by Kwanele Ntshangase (first), Thato Motsepe (second) and Lethu Shabalala (third).

The runners-up went away with silver medals, while the champions took home the winners’ trophy and gold medals.
