Fourth instalment of Flava Yase Kasi a success
Soweto Gold Superior Golden Lager, the easy drinking golden beer born and brewed in eKasi, held its fourth instalment of the five-a-side soccer tournament called Flava Yase Kasi Tournament at Somhlolo Stadium in Katlehong on July 21.
Twenty teams from all over Kathorus took part in the tournament that was won by Balaboza Tavern after defeating their opponents 3-2.
Brand ambassador representing Kathorus Jabulani Mendu, former Bafana Bafana midfielder and Kaizer Chiefs legend, said the purpose of the games is to bring back the kasi style of playing football.
“This is how most of us started. We were playing on dusty fields like this one. But we made it to the top to play for big teams like Moroka Swallows, Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Bafana Bafana. The tournament is also aimed at encouraging the brotherhood spirit to the players who are going to participate,” said Mendu.
He said soccer is not just a sport, it’s a brotherhood encouraging freedom of expression.
“Soweto Gold invites all brothers to bring the Soweto Gold spirit: ‘Born eKasi. Brewed for all’,” Mendu said.
The winners took home R10 000.
Mendu added that the winners from Alexandra, Soweto, Mamelodi, Katlehong, Garankua and Tembisa are going to play the finals at Nike Centre in Soweto on August 25.
“The cool sum of R30 000 will be at stake then,” said Mendu.
The next Flava Yase Kasi games schedule is as follow:
The games in Garankuwa will take place on August 6 followed by Tembisa on August 21.
The finals will take place on August 25.
