Bodies found tied up, burnt inside container
A third victim was found close by with third degree burns covering his entire body.
The charred bodies of two men were found with their hands bound inside a burnt-out tools container at a construction site in Kempton Park on the East Rand on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a reported “house fire” at about 1:30am, said Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency management services (EMS) spokesperson William Ntladi.
On arrival at the scene, EMS found it was not a house fire but a blaze at a construction site, where a huge tools container was on fire. The two bodies were found after the blaze was extinguished, Kempton Express reported.
“Two male bodies were discovered inside a container with both individuals’ hands tied at the back. One other patient was medically treated on scene for full thickness burn wounds. He was then transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital in a critical condition,” he explained.
Ntladi said the surviving victim was found a few metres away from the container with 100% third degree burns.
“The scene was handed over to the police and an inquest docket has been opened to probe the cause of fire and deaths,” added Ntladi.
Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali said two counts of murder, attempted murder and possible business robbery were being investigated. No arrests have been made.
