TUT lovebirds found in pool of blood after party

The man allegedly dragged his 21-year-old girlfriend to his bedroom, where an argument erupted.

Two lovebirds, students at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Mpumalanga, were found lying in a pool of blood after the boyfriend allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and turned the knife on himself on their return from a party.

Spokesperson for the Hawks Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the couple were from a party on Sunday when they returned to the boyfriend’s residential place at Urban Cove TUT residence, Mpumalanga News reported.

The 25-year-old man allegedly dragged his 21-year-old girlfriend to his bedroom, where an argument erupted.

“During the altercation, the man allegedly produced a knife and stabbed his girlfriend more than once. He then allegedly turned the knife on himself in an attempt to commit suicide,” Hlathi added.

“After stabbing himself, the man apparently tried to jump over the balcony, but his friends managed to stop him. Police were called and both were found lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Both were taken to hospital,” he said.

The girlfriend was discharged from hospital on Monday morning while her lover is recuperating in hospital under police guard. He faces charges of assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear before court once he has been discharged from hospital.
