Case dismissed against EFF MP arrested in Clicks protests
A case against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Kenny Motsamai, was dismissed by the Sebokeng Magistrates court yesterday.
Motsamai was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest last Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said that Motsamai was arrested at the Evaton Mall last Monday following the Clicks store protests that saw EFF members protesting at Clicks stores across the country after a hair product advertisement by the store which the party said was racist.
Motsamai was out on R500 bail.
EFF Member of Parliament, Patrick Sindane said that the dismissal of the case was welcomed. He said that Motsamai was the one who was assaulted by police at Evaton Mall.
“When they realised that they were wrong, they arrested him and said he was assaulting police. They broke his hand and he suffered other serious injuries. Their plan was to project the EFF as an anarchist organisation and some bunch of thugs while all EFF was doing was within the constitutional limit, the right to protest peacefully.”
