The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the landfill site has reopened after a temporary closure caused by a shooting incident.

The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that operations at the Simmer and Jack landfill site in Germiston have resumed following a temporary suspension of services last week.

The landfill site was briefly closed after a shooting incident involving illegal miners and waste reclaimers raised safety concerns at the facility.

According to a statement, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), together with the police, conducted a safety assessment before declaring the site safe for operations to continue.

Following the joint assessment, waste disposal activities at the landfill have resumed as normal.
