The Primrose police arrested a 29-year-old man for assault, in the Marathon informal settlement, in Primrose, recently.
Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, said the complainant laid a charge of assault against the man after she was discharged from hospital.
The woman informed the police that she was drinking at the local tavern when the man approached her and requested a cigarette.
“She said she told him that she did not have cigarettes, and the man left,” added Maome.
“He later returned and started assaulting the complainant with a sharp object.”
The man is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
