Good music, good food and good company — and all for a good cause.
Following the success of the inaugural SPCA Animal Run, last year, all motorcycle clubs, fanatics and families are invited to participate in the second annual SPCA Animal Run, on Sunday, September 1, at the Cardinals’ Baseball Club, next to the Boksburg City Stadium. The event is in aid of SPCA branches on the East Rand and includes the societies involved in the organisation of the event — Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Germiston, Kempton Park, Nigel and Springs.
The hope is to collect as much pet food, pet blankets and donations as possible to support this worthwhile cause.
“The support was amazing last year, with more than 900 bikes from more than 20 clubs taking part in the run, and more than 1 000 people attending the end event, raising a well needed R50 000,” said organiser Chris Badenhorst.
“We look forward to an even bigger and better event this year, with over 1 200 bikes and more than 1 500 people.”
The mass ride for motorcycles to the end venue will start at 9am, from Checkers-Hyper Edenvale.
From Checkers-Hyper Edenvale the mass ride will again be marshaled by the Road Rangers and the EMPD to the Cardinals Baseball Club, at the Boksburg City Stadium, in Jubilee Road, Boksburg.
“Unfortunately, due to metro restrictions, we regret that no off-road bikes are allowed to take part in the ride this year,” Badenhorst said.
“We are also delighted that Jeremy and Jacqui Mansfield will be joining us this year, at the end venue.
“The on-going, tough economic environment has many families reeling from the consequences, which, unfortunately, amplifies the plight of our furry friends significantly.
“The need for the SPCA to intervene has never been greater and we simply cannot cope with the sheer volume of abandoned and abused animals requiring our help.
“The hosting of the Animal Run is to create and raise awareness for the SPCA and the plight of animals.
“All proceeds and donations will be put to very good use and we urge the Gauteng biker community to once again show their hearts and support, while having fun at the same time.”
To get into the grounds at Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club there will be a R20 fee.
The venue will be transformed into a fun destination, complete with a beer tent, a variety of food stalls, a flea market, a Puzey STX 200 Motard raffle, mechanical bull, and 100 lucky draw prizes.
Shaded picnic areas will be available and display areas where motorcycle and car dealers will show their goods.
SPCA Animal Run 2013 T-shirts and cloth and metal badges will be available on the day.
“Although this day is all about animals, it’s not a day for the animals and we ask that animals not be brought to the end venue,” said Badenhorst.
“We hope you will join us for a fun-filled day in aid of the SPCA.”
