Accident leaves one dead, one injured

A recent accident has left one person dead and another seriously injured.

One person died and another was seriously injured in an accident on Pretoria Road, in Primrose, recently.

The accident occurred between Elm and Olive roads, on July 26, at about 9.30pm.

Two motorcycles, a green Kawasaki and a green Suzuki, as well as a dark blue Opel Corsa, were involved in the accident.

Kobeli Mokheseng, media liaison officer for the EMPD, told the GCN that the rider of the Kawasaki, a man in his 30s, was airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital with serious injuries.

The other motorcyclist, a man in his late 30s, was declared dead on the scene.

The driver of the Opel Corsa, a man in his 40s, did not have any visible injuries, but was treated for shock on the scene.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services arrived on the scene at 9.33pm, and the scene was cleared by 11.27pm.

“Although all the details have not been established as yet, it is said that one motorcyclist was driving in the left lane and the other in the right lane,” said Mokheseng.

“It is alleged that the Kawasaki rider crashed into the left rear of the Opel, causing the driver of the Opel to lose control of his vehicle.

“As the car spun across the road, the motorcyclist in the left lane crashed into the left front passenger door of the vehicle.

“He was certified dead on the scene.”

The EMPD’s Accident Reconstruction Unit will investigate to find out exactly what occurred, and a case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Primrose Police Station, for further investigation.
