ProMinent comes to the party

The private sector stands up for empowerment.

ProMinent Fluid Controls, in Germiston, and Edutel have joined forces and empowered the youth through a skills development learnership programme.

The two companies held their first learnership graduation ceremony at the Majestic Nursery and Tea Garden, in Lambton, on Tuesday (July 30).

“We set up workplace lectures and assigned mentors to the learners and we completed this learnership without any problems and the learners have now been declared competent and certified by the relevant SETA,” said Amanda Bothma, skills development facilitator (HR Right).

“It is a testament to the hard work of the learners and the management team that these learners made it through the learnership on a long distance basis.”

Seipati Moloi, Beauty Mashile and Magic Mathebula were the three graduates who were being honoured for their achievements.

“It wasn’t easy getting here; it was a long process and we had to prove ourselves,” said Seipati.

The three graduates were selected from a total of 130 candidates.

“We’re very proud of our graduates, who’ve done so well,” said Peter Sheasby, from ProMinent Fluid Controls.

“Against all odds, we’ve proven everybody wrong.

“I hope our company will inspire other small companies our size to do the same.”

“It proves that even small companies can take in learners and help to provide skills for people in different industries, giving more people not just a qualification, but workplace experience as well,” added Amanda.

“Companies can participate in learnerships, whereby they give unemployed youths, workplace experience and also pay for them to obtain a recognised national qualification in a particular industry.

“They also provide them with a small allowance to help them travel to the place of work and buy the resources they need to complete the learnership.”

Oscar Bashing, from Edutel, thanked the graduates for their dedication to the learnership.

He spoke about how small businesses seldom open opportunities and commended the ProMinent team for approaching Edutel and making the learnership a reality.

“It is a God-given opportunity to have worked with all of you,” he said.

“It is not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.”
