School searched for drugs and weapons

A Katlehong school was recently raided by EMPD and SAPS officers searching for drugs and weapons.

Complaints from members of the community and parents about the unbecoming behaviour of some of the scholars in Katlehong prompted law enforcement agencies to act recently.

The schools the SAPS and the EMPD wanted to swoop on were the O R Tambo Secondary and Eketsang Secondary schools.

The search at O R Tambo Secondary School yielded one arrest – that of an 18-year-old boy in Grade10, who was found in possession of a matchbox full of dagga.

He was taken to Ramakonopi Police Station to be charged.

In a Grade 11 classroom dagga was found spilled on the floor and no one accepted responsibility for it, thus no one was arrested.

“Unfortunately, a search could not be conducted at Eketsang Secondary School, as they were on a break and seemingly had been tipped-off about the earlier operation at O R Tambo Secondary School,” said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

“EMPD and SAPS members will conduct joint operations by swooping unannounced on schools where we have received complaints about students attending classes inebriated and generally displaying improper conduct not befitting of scholars.”
