Car crashes over railway bridge

A car landed on the railway tracks in Lambton recently.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services raced to the scene of an accident, at 3.50am, on September 24.

The driver of a car had crashed through the barriers erected on the railway bridge on Webber Road, in Lambton, and the vehicle had landed on the railway line below.

There was only one occupant in the vehicle at the time of the accident and he was transported by a NetCare 911 ambulance to Natalspruit Hospital, in Katlehong.

The patient suffered minor injuries.

Ward 36 councillor Chris Swanepoel said he was very concerned about the number of accidents happening in his ward.

“I urge people to take care on the roads,” he said.

He added that he will be taking up the matter of a permanent repair job being done on the bridge with the relevant department, as a matter of urgency, to help alleviate the valid concerns of the public with regard to the bridge.
