Man arrested in Malvern East

Man arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm and live ammunition.

Primrose police recently arrested a 40-year-old man on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition, and of threatening a person with a firearm.

He was arrested in Stanhope Road in Malvern East.

Officers were on their normal patrol route in Primrose, when they received a report from a complainant that he was being threatened by a man with a firearm.

The complainant alleged that the 40-year-old man had pointed a firearm at him.

The SAPS rushed to the scene where the complainant pointed out a man who had been overpowered by members of the community.

When the officers questioned the man, he was unable to produce a licence for the firearm.

The SAPS then arrested him and confiscated the firearm and ammunition.

Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, said: “On behalf of the station management, I would like to thank the members of the community who helped the victim to overpower the suspect and kept him under control until the police arrived.

“They never assaulted the accused and this is an indication that our community is really helping the police to fight crime in the area.”
