In March, St James’s Presbyterian Church, in Bedfordview, celebrates 100 years of existence – a century of sharing the blessing of God’s Word.
The church has moved from a humble beginning in an old tin shanty, in Malvern, to its current home in Bedfordview, which seats about 500 worshippers.
Beginning with a Communion Service on Sunday, March 2, at St James’s Church, 3 Oxford Road, at 9am, and ending with a Communion Service on Sunday, June 1, the members will celebrate the centenary in order to honour the people who have gone before them and the God whom they serve.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa, the Moderator of Egoli, the past Moderator of St James’s, the Rev David Jones, and other dignitaries, will attend the opening service.
Other events include a Sunday School picnic, a formal dinner and a combined choir, singing an Easter Cantata.
The church has many members from the Germiston area and they, as well as members of the general public who are looking for a place of worship to call home, are welcome to attend the celebrations.
Anyone else who wishes to share in the celebrations with the church is also welcome to attend.
The church’s current Moderator is the Rev Gavin Lock, and he and the folk of St James will embrace all newcomers – be they in the Sunday School or pensioners.
