The Thursday club pays tribute

Madge Morrison remembered.

The Thursday Club would like to pay tribute to one of its founding members, who died recently.

Madge Morrison, who was born on December 14, 1914, in Johannesburg, was one of the six founding members of the Thursday Club, which was started on February 28, 1952.

One of the very first fund-raising projects of the club was to raise 110 Pounds Sterling to buy a piano for the Elandsvallei Home for the Aged, which is still used today.

The club has been active for 62 years, and boasts a long history of achievements.

Morrison’s involvement in the club has been described as “never ending”.

“Her hard work, dedication and efforts were greatly appreciated by one and all,” said Dianne Venter, the active chairwoman of the club.

“She was a very smart, special, talented and amazing woman; she set high standards in the club and was always willing to go the extra mile.

“She was admired, loved, respected and, no matter the situation, always a lady.”]

Even when she could no longer attend meetings or functions, due to age and health, she still showed a keen interest in the club and loved to be kept up to date on what was happening.

Morrison also kept a careful eye on the club’s various fund-raising projects and took pride in every success.

“The club has many fond memories of Madge, which we will treasure and share,” added Venter.

“Her memory will continue to inspire the club to reach even higher goals.”
