St Catherine’s School, which started canoeing only last year (2013), at Germiston Lake, is proud of the achievements of Grade Six student, Jaemi Wellish.
Wellish participated in her first regatta on February 1, at Homestead Dam, in Benoni, taking second place in the 2 000m event and third in the 500m race.
She then took part in another two races, on March 1, at Germiston Lake, placing third in the 1 000m race and second in the 200m sprint.
She also took second place overall for her performance in her age group.
Her latest races were held on March 21 and 22, at Roodeplaat Dam, just outside of Pretoria, and formed part of the Gauteng Championship.
Wellish competed in the 500m, where she took second place, the 200m, where she placed third, and the 5 000m, where she again placed third.
She went on to place third overall in her age group, and received a bronze medal.
Wellish is not only making a splash in canoeing, but in sailing, as well.
She took part in her first sailing regatta on March 15 and 16, at Germiston Lake, and placed 23rd overall.
