Help make life easier for the less fortunate
Local community group wants to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate people and the youth.
Youth Day was commemorated by the Vusa Umuntu Community Service organisation at a special function in the banquet hall, at the Germiston Civic Centre, last Monday.
The community was entertained by various groups and enjoyed a meal with the members.
As Vusa is a non-profit organisation the entire event was sponsored.
The venue was sponsored by the metro through its Youth Unit, the sound was courtesy of King Sizza and the food was sponsored by Nik More Trading, Anceriz Engineering (Pty) Ltd, Bogale and CCRC.
Footballs were handed out to the children and these were donated by Arrow Stationers.
The organisation relies totally on donations to do its work and does not receive a government subsidy.
Currently, they do not have their own offices from which to operate and are looking for a place to call “home”.
Vusa Umuntu has 10 active volunteers, who work daily, and the organisation would love to get bicycles for them to get around on, as well as a bakkie to do deliveries.
Currently, they have to hire a bakkie when they have had collections of clothes and groceries, in order to deliver the items to the people who need them.
The organisation is involved in a number of activities and projects:
- Soccer teams: boys u-12 and u-15.
- Netball teams for girls and women.
- A feeding scheme and grocery distribution project for disadvantaged families.
- Collection of school uniforms and clothes for disadvantaged children.
- Friends for Life social club which has 40 members , where they share information and encourage young people to add value and establish small businesses and organisations.
- Food gardening project for disadvantaged families.
- Skills development and art project.
The organisation is appealing to local businesses and the community to assist it to make the lives of people better.
