Man interferes with police duties

One nabbed for public drinking and one for interference.

Primrose Police arrested a suspect, aged 28, for interfering with police duties, in Stanhope Road.

“Our police were patrolling when they stopped a vehicle for a search and found a man drinking inside the vehicle; the officers explained to him that he was under arrest for drinking in public,” said the communication officer for the Primrose SAPS, Sgt Styles Maome.

As the police took the suspect to the patrol vehicle, another man blocked their way, started swearing at them and told them that the suspect would not get into the police vehicle.

The police arrested both men; the man who blocked their way was charged with interfering with police duties.

Both men were detained at the Primrose Police Station and appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the suspect arrested for drinking in public was released on admission of guilt, while the other suspect’s case was postponed for plea and trial.
