Voters given extra time to collect IDs before elections

Home Affairs is extending office hours ahead of the November 4 elections, urging citizens to collect completed identity documents or obtain temporary documentation where necessary.

The Department of Home Affairs will extend operating hours at its front offices to help eligible voters obtain the identity documents needed for the November 4 Local Government Elections.

The extended hours will allow citizens to collect completed identity documents, apply for IDs and obtain Temporary Identity Certificates (TICs), where applicable, the department said.

From November 2 to 4, Home Affairs offices will operate from 08:00 to 18:00.

On Election Day, November 4, offices will remain open from 07:00 to 21:00, in line with the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s operating hours.
