Child Welfare needs your help this Mandela Day

Get involved and help the community on Mandela Day.

As Mandela Day approaches, many people want to give back to the community.

When you plan for Nelson Mandela International Day, on July 18, do him proud and show that you understand that to truly honour his legacy we should give back to our communities.

There are many things with which Germiston Child Welfare needs help, and this includes both monetary and giving-of-time donations.

Germiston Child Welfare is providing the community with the opportunity to donate R67 to the society.

With this money, the organisation will pay local, unemployed people in the community to work on your behalf, for the 67 Minutes on Mandela’s Day.

So, not only will you be contributing to a great cause, someone other than just Child Welfare will benefit as well.

For those who would like to volunteer their time, the society needs help with the following:

  • The roof desperately needs fixing and painting.
  • The garden needs attention.
  • Fencing is needed at the back of the offices.
  • Shelves are needed in the storeroom.
  • The outside sewing room needs to be turned into an office, so paint, curtains, a new door and office furniture for two people are required.

If you would rather donate items, instead of volunteering at the society, the following are needed:

  • Computers and laptops for staff.
  • Groceries for needy families (tinned food, pasta, rice, mielie meal).
  • Air-conditioners for the offices.
  • New office chairs with wheels.
  • Small carpets for the Katlehong offices, as well as a fan and office desk.
  • Toiletry dignity packs for both girls and boys.
  • Get involved with the “Adopt-a-Child” project.
  • Small bar fridge.
  • General donations to run the charity.
