In a move to continue deepening participatory democracy and a people-centred government, Ekurhuleni executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele will lead his executive committee into communities to report on the status of service delivery through the Mayoral Izimbizo programme.
The two-day Mayoral Izimbizo will be used to report back on the municipal performance for the 2013/2014 financial year and is also expected to give area-specific ground-breaking announcements regarding the 2014/2015 financial year.
The mayor and his committee will be spread across various areas of the metro today (Wednesday, August 20) and tomorrow (Thursday, August 21) to report on the mandate given by the people.
“We have a social contract with the citizens of the metro, which places an obligation on the leadership of the metro to continuously engage with the communities directly, in order to remain alert of the current needs, the shortfalls and, indeed, to share the achievements of the metro,” metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said.
Accordingly, the mayoral Izimbizo will also respond to the issues that were raised by communities in February, this year.
