Germiston City FC’s victory

A win for City.

Germiston City FC’s first team played an away match, against Edenvale FC, on Saturday.

Germiston City started this game well and, in the first minute, were attacking Edenvale.

They were rewarded with a goal in the fourth minute, after a scuffle in the Edenvale box, with Zuma Maketso poking in the ball, off the Edenvale upright.

Germiston continued their relentless attack, with Edenvale rarely getting out of their own half.

Some good play down the left hand flank by Kaya Gertse beat off the Edenvale defenders and crossed into the path of Shakes Majepelo with a gaping Edenvale goal; it hit the post, a left off for Edenvale.

Germiston continued to apply pressure, but were unable to capitalise on their good play by pressurising the Edenvale defence into mistakes.

Edenvale’s defence ensured no more goals until half time, with the scoreboard being 1-0 in favour of Germiston at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Germiston continued the pressure.

A late tackle by Innocent Dhlamini saw his name go into the referee’s book, with Pizo Muso following shortly afterwards.

Edenvale then went into their best spell of the game, pushing the Germiston defence to be on their best guard to keep the home side at bay.

Edenvale’s threats, however, amounted to very little and, in the 29th minute, they forced a corner which was well dealt with by Brando Greyling in the Germiston goal, who had little to do the whole game.

The game ended with a score of 2-0 to Germiston.

This win elevates Germiston to third place in the Super League Two, with promotion to Super League One looking good.

The Germiston second side went back to the top of the Reserve Super League Two, with a 2-0 victory over Edenvale.

The Delville Sports Club will host the semi-finals of the Super League Cup on Saturday, August 23.

With the Super League Cup and the Super League Reserve Cup taking place, there will be four games, with the first kick-off at 1.30pm.
