Woman arrested for selling liquor without a licence

Woman bust in local tavern selling liquor illegally.

Members of the Primrose police arrested a female suspect in the Delport informal settlement, for dealing in liquor without a licence.

The arrest was made on Saturday, August 30, while officers were on a foot patrol in the area.

During the patrol they noticed a board advertising a local tavern.

“Our officers travelled to the address mentioned in the advert and observed the tavern, noting the number of people going in and out with bottles of beer,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The officers approached the tavern’s owner and asked permission to search the premises; they also asked the owner for her licence.”

She was unable to provide one and was arrested.

“We will continue to mount operations such as this one in our informal settlements, to reduce the high volume of liquor-related crimes,” added Maome.

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the case was postponed for trial.
