#2026Localelections: Nthuthuzelo Mphambane targets re-election in Ward 35

A local candidate is banking on infrastructure delivery and road upgrades to win another term at the polls.

Ward 35 councillor candidate Nthuthuzelo Mphambane says his nomination reflects the confidence residents place in him as he bids for another term of office ending today.

He pledged to continue with ongoing development projects across the ward, expressing confidence that he would retain his position.

“I’ll be announced as the ward councillor by tomorrow morning,” he said.

Infrastructure pledges
Mphambane highlighted several projects underway in the ward, including the planned development of the Dukathole taxi rank, road rehabilitation and the restoration of vandalised streetlights.

“The Dukathole taxi rank project will be underway on [Month] 15, and we have continued with the rehabilitation of roads. The number of roads rehabilitated is unheard of for a councillor. About 18 roads were resurfaced,” he said.

He added that the ward also wanted to see the continuation of the streetlight project, with efforts underway to repair lights that had previously been vandalised.

Service delivery concerns
However, Mphambane acknowledged ongoing service delivery challenges, highlighting waste collection in Dukathole as a concern.

“Waste in Dukathole hasn’t been collected for a week,” he said.

He further encouraged people to come out in their numbers and cast their vote.
