A Nissan LDV belonging to the EMPD Speed Unit disappeared after being parked in the Brakpan CBD, at 11.30am, on Tuesday.
On activation of the tracking system, EMPD Intervention Unit members received the details of the stolen vehicle and picked up the signal while driving on the N3 highway, near Vosloorus.
The signal led them to Rondebult, where they found the vehicle abandoned at 12.15pm.
The Intervention Unit members traced the stolen Nissan 1400 to Kiwi Street in Rondebult.
The vehicle was found undamaged and all the speed equipment was intact.
The recovered vehicle was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound, in Benoni.
Investigations are underway to track down the people responsible for the theft.
