Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, chief executives of JSE listed companies and other donors will, this Friday, October 10, immediately after the Ebola response fund meeting, convene a media briefing to unveil South Africa’s contribution to health and humanitarian efforts.
South Africa has set up an Ebola response fund to mobilise resources from the business community to assist in health and humanitarian efforts following the outbreak.
The government-led meeting will be attended by donors and the business community, including ambassadors from Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia and will, will among other matters:
- welcome back the South African team of experts from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) who returned from Sierra Leone;
- receive a first-hand report on the EVD outbreak in Sierra Leone;
- report on the current activities by the department of health for the health and humanitarian response to the EVD outbreak in West Africa;
- highlight and acknowledge all pledges by partners to date;
- establish the ministerial advisory team on Ebola;
- coordinate further pledges to the Ebola Response Fund, including personnel, support in kind and financial contributions.
