Vacant hospital a great picking ground for thieves

The old Natalspruit Hospital is being looted.

The old Natalspruit Hospital, in Katlehong, is being looted.

This is according to Jack Bloom, MPL DA Gauteng shadow MEC for Health, who said that the hospital is being stripped of metal parts, despite assurances by Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu that it would be securely guarded and demolished in an orderly manner.

“Security guards are on a go-slow, as they have not been paid since August, when patients were transferred to the new hospital in Vosloorus,” said Bloom.

“I am very disappointed that the old hospital is not being demolished safely and properly, as promised.

“The Gauteng Infrastructure Development Department is now responsible for the site and needs to take control of what is happening there.

“Anything of value should be sold or donated to community organisations, rather than left for thieves.”
