The Primrose police recently arrested seven suspects aged between 34 and 46 for dealing in liquor without a licence.
They were nabbed in the Makause and Marathon informal settlements.
Police officers were conducting operations in the settlements when they noticed groups of people sitting and drinking alcohol.
“Our police stopped and observed and saw people going into and out of various places with bottles of beer.
“They approached the places and gained permission to search.
“They found a lot of beer and asked the owners for their liquor licences which they could not provide,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS.
The police arrested the owners and took them to Primrose Police Station for detention.
“We will keep on having similar operations in our informal settlements, to reduce the high volume of liquor-related crimes,” said Maome.
“Some of the suspects paid admission of guilt fines, while others appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and the matters were postponed for trial,” said Maome.
