Paula Kukkuk was left devastated when her car was stolen from outside her home, in Primcourt, Primrose.
“Motor vehicle theft is on the rise in the Primrose area,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“We appeal to the community to keep their vehicles in a secure area and not to leave them on pavements and streets at night.”
Many residents who have experienced a similar situation can relate to how stranded Kukkuk feels.
“The situation is made worse by the fact that she suffers from a lung disease that makes it difficult for her to breathe,” said Anna Stenman, Kukkuk’s sister.
“She can’t even walk to the shop across the road without being left breathless.
“Like many in these tough economic times my sister’s car was not insured.
“This means she is left with no way to travel around.”
While they cannot ask for a new car, the family is appealing to the community to assist with a wheelchair or electric scooter catering specially for older people, or funds that will assist them with the purchase of one of these, as it is believed that either of these will help with her mobility.
Anyone who is interested in helping the family can call Stenman on 011 822-9787.
