Give a gift to bring joy this Christmas
Local home needs your help to make Christmas special.
The postal strike has taken its toll on many organisations relying on postal appeals to bring in much-needed funds and donations of goods.
Sylvia Haywood, executive member of the Avril Elizabeth Home for the Mentally Handicapped, stated that the home is struggling to provide Christmas gifts for its 155 intellectually and physically disabled residents.
“On Christmas Day, Santa normally arrives with his sack full of presents from the public and from companies in the area, and we are able to spoil our residents.
“This year we have not received any presents for our residents and we would really like to appeal to you all to help us to make Christmas a very special day for them,” said Haywood.
Some ideas for Christmas gifts include toiletry gift packs (male/female), puzzles (50 to 200 pieces), craft activities (such as colour-by-numbers), musical and educational toys, large dolls, large cars, large building blocks, large picture/story books, watches for boys/girls and clothing (T-shirts, shorts, pyjamas — all ages over four years).
“We are also in need of goodies to have a party on Christmas Day such as chips, sweets (not hard-boiled), chocolates and cool drinks,” said Haywood.
