Eskom to annouce load shedding plans for the weekend
Eskom CEO warns consumers to start planning their lives and businesses around load shedding because it will become a reality for the foreseeable future.
Eskom said this morning it will be in a position this afternoon to announce whether the community can expect a load shedding free couple of days.
The company said while it plans to do maintenace of the grid this festive season, it hopes to avoid any major load shedding during the festive season starting with this weekend.
On Thursday, government announced a turnaround strategy for Eskom, as the nation battles the worst power crisis since 2008.
Eskom’s Andrew Etzinger said the holidays should bring some relief to Eskom’s on-going struggles.
“We’ll begin a lot of maintenance on the grid so there will still be a certain amount of pressure.
“But we will manage that and we’re hoping to give the country a good breather.”
Though this news offers consumers some hope the burning question remains how Eskom will handle the new year?
It’s has been instructed to release a detailed financial report to the government this month, to show how it plans to cope next year in keeping the country’s lights on.
Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe announced a five-point plan on Thursday, aimed to help Eskom with on-going electricity problems, saying a technical war room has been established to implement the plan.
This week, Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona also urged all South Africans to start planning their lives and businesses around load shedding because it will become a reality for the foreseeable future.
