A teenager was killed and six other people hospitalised after a multiple vehicle accident on Saturday.
The accident involved six cars and two fully loaded super link trucks and took place on the N3 North/N12 split at the Gillooly`s interchange in Bedfordview.
One truck was carrying fertilizer and the other was carrying diesel.
The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services rescue team responded to the scene and found two patients still trapped inside one of the vehicles which had been crashed into by one of the trucks.
Specialised rescue tools (Jaws of Life) were used to free the patients from the wreckage and the teenager was declared dead on the scene.
Six other patients were transported by ambulances to various hospitals in Ekurhuleni.
Two were in critical conditions, two were in serious but stable conditions and the other two suffered minor injuries.
Two lanes of N12 split from the N3 were closed to traffic until the wreckages and oil spillages were cleared from the road.
