Detective Sgt Sam Ngqoleka, of the Primrose police, was pleased to have secured a conviction in a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Rodgers Mazina was arrested for the crime on October 9 in 2012, and found guilty on January 15 of this year.
Mazina (31), a Makause informal settlement resident, was sentenced to three year imprisonment, with suspended sentence of five years, on the condition that the accused is not again convicted of the same or another crime during the period of suspension.
The station commander of the Primrose SAPS Col Mduduzi Khuzwayo and his management thanked Sgt Ngqoleka for his dedication in his investigation.
“It is through hard work and dedication that we are able to get such achievements,” said Khuzwayo.
“I appeal to other members of the Primrose police force to learn from Sgt Ngqoleka’s efforts.”
