Students encouraged to reach for their dreams

Rotary’s annual Prefects Evening.

The Germiston Rotary Club was pleased to host its annual Prefects Evening, on Thursday, at the Germiston Golf Club.

Guests at the event included prefects, student leaders, teachers and principals from eight schools in the city, and aimed to motivate the young leaders for the year ahead.

Primrose High School, Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, Assumption Convent School, Germiston High School, Hoërskool Vryburger High, St Catherine’s School, Dawnview High School and Hoërskool Goudrif were represented at the event.

The head boy or girl from each of the attending schools was asked to give a small presentation on what made their school great.

Elaine Mc Donald, celebrated author, screen writer and children’s TV presenter, was the guest speaker at the event and delivered a thought-provoking presentation that had not only the students thinking of their future.

Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston principal Retha du Toit took a moment to thank Rotary for encouraging the new matric students each year, and asked them to continue to do it in the future.

Acting president of the Germiston Rotary Club, Patrick Garland, concluded the function with good wishes for the students’ year ahead and thanked everyone for attending the event.
