Communities face a second day of stage two load shedding
Can Eskom get power grid stable by the weekend?
Eskom announced this morning (Friday) that there will be stage two load shedding from 8am until 10pm yet again.
Load shedding was pushed to stage three yesterday afternoon.
This means the power system is more vulnerable than ever before and that Eskom needs to shed 4 000 megawatts from the national grid.
It has been reported that load shedding could go into the weekend as several generating units remain offline.
It has since been reported that human error may have contributed to this week’s technical problems.
On Sunday, a unit at the Koeberg Power Station went offline which the company has now admitted was caused by technicians working at the plant in the Western Cape.
“Because we have lost a number of generators since the beginning of this week, we are likely to see a repeat of yesterday (Thursday) and partly over the weekend as well.
“We still have to do a lot of maintenance of the generators which are down now,” explained Khulu Phasiwe, spokesman for Eskom.
Eskom will continue to update the community on the power grid’s status.
