A 23-year-old man was recently arrested by the Primrose police.
He was charged with theft under false pretences, after a woman alleged that he pretended to be a lawyer.
The victim told officers that her husband had been arrested and, while she was at the police station the suspect approached her, claiming to be a lawyer.
“It is alleged that the man told the woman to deposit money into an account to ensure her husband’s released,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
When her husband didn’t return home the woman called the police station, to discover that he had not been released.
She phoned the ”lawyer” immediately, but, when he didn’t answer the calls, she became suspicious and opened a case with the police.
Detectives were able to track down the suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday, March 25.
He will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
