High risk of load shedding today

Eskom battles with shortage of generating capacity.

Many community members were left without power yesterday (Sunday) with Eskom implementing stage two load shedding from 10am to 10pm.

This was due to a shortage of generating capacity, as several units were out of service due to planned and unplanned outages.

The company has since said that though no load shedding is planned for today (Monday) the national power grid remains under pressure and any unexpected changes at Eskom’s power plants could lead to load shedding at a moment’s notice.

The company calls on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by urgently switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.

Eskom will continue to provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all social media platforms and on their website www.eskom.co.za.
