Drunk driver crashes into stadium fence

Fencing takes a bashing thanks to drunk driver.

A driver, in an alleged drunken stupor, was arrested in the early hours of last Saturday morning, after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the Huntersfield Stadium concrete palisade fencing.

“A call came through to the EMPD about the incident, and a Loss Control and Investigations Unit member dashed to the scene and found the inebriated driver slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle, oblivious of what had happened,” said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

“Extensive damage was caused to the fencing, as well as to the culprit’s vehicle.”

The 36-year-old driver came out unscathed from the accident.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and damaging council property.

The case was registered at the Katlehong North Police Station and the driver is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
