Stage two load shedding implemented for Wednesday
The power utility warns of load shedding between 6am and 10pm today.
Eskom has implemented load shedding from 6am this morning until 10pm tonight.
The company also warned the power system is constrained and vulnerable and any unexpected changes could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.
Eskom has said it expects its generators to come back online later this afternoon, or tomorrow.
The power utility’s spokesman Khulu Phasiwe explained, “We currently to do not have enough generating capacity; this started on Sunday last week, where we lost some of our generating units because of technical faults.
“We have not recovered those units, which are currently out of service.”
South Africans have been warned to brace themselves for more load shedding with Eskom only being able to supply half the amount of power needed in the country.
Phasiwe said the prognosis for the rest of the week is expected to be similar.
“Because we’re starting from this low base, chances are we’ll continue with this constrained power system.
“This will possibly go on for the rest of the week,” he concluded.
