The Elsburg SAPS are investigating a case of business robbery.
The alleged robbery took place in Davidson Street, Wadeville, last Monday.
“It was alleged that the security officer who was on duty, at a company in the street, was approached by three armed men,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.
“The men tied his hands and legs and left him outside the guard room.”
The men then proceeded to steal steel and loaded it onto two trucks.
The thieves gained entrance to the premises by breaking the padlock on the gate with an axe.
“All the suspects were dressed in security uniforms and they assaulted the security officer with the axe, by hitting him on the head.
“The men didn’t fire any shots during the robbery and escaped with the steel on two white trucks,” said Phooko.
After following several leads, the police arrested seven men, aged between 18 and 29 years old.
The trucks used during the crime have also been seized by the police.
The men were detained at the Elsburg Police Station pending their appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
