Primrose Sector Three’s crime forum is hard at work
Primrose Sector Three community plans to target crime in the area.
Almost 200 community members turned out (even during load shedding) to hear about the new initiatives being launched by the new Primrose Sector Three Crime Forum at a recent meeting.
“Crime and even serious crime has been on the rise in what is traditionally one of the safest sectors, out of all six police stations in the Germiston Cluster,” said sector chairman Max Katz.
Katz thanked the new committee and said the community were partnering with the SAPS to help reduce crime in their suburbs as soon as possible.
“We have a plan that will empower our community and help the police to drive out the increased crime,” he said.
Quinton Birch, who will head the neighbourhood watch, will team up with the Sector Two patrollers.
“They have had great success over the past eight months in decreasing criminal activity in their area,” said Katz.
Birch explained the importance of proper training, correct equipment, well planned scheduling and suitable identification for the more than 55 new Sector Three community members who have already started patrolling the Sector Three area.
Lourens Botha spoke to the community about how the street cooperative would work and how to make use of the crime alerts allocated to each street group.
He also clarified the value of the social chat groups, which allow people to interact and to get to know each other in their own road.
“This helps to build more concern and friendships, which, in turn, lead to a far safer society,” Botha said.
Katz added: “We are so grateful to our community for their huge support.
“Also to the SAPS and the Primrose station commander, Col Mduduzi Khuzwayo, who was our guest speaker.
“We are all working together as partners in securing the future of our own streets.
“These criminals have already taken too much from us; we are now going to start taking back our dignity and our pride.”
