After having his cellphone stolen, a man chased after the 25-year-old man who had taken it.
With the help of a security guard at the Germiston Railway Station, the man was apprehended and handed over to officers from the Primrose Police Station.
The recent incident began when the victim was speaking on his cellphone on a train.
The accused grabbed the phone from the victim, jumped off the train and ran towards Marlands.
The victim chased him and was able to catch him, but the accused overpowered him and ran off.
The man returned to the station, where he saw the suspect again.
The victim requested the assistance of a nearby security guard and together they were able to apprehend the suspect.
“We thank the parties involved for not taking the law into their own hands; together we can make Primrose a crime-free area,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
The suspect, who was charged with common robbery, appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
