Out of the Box, a local skills development centre, needs the community’s help.
The centre provides skills, hope and opportunities to disadvantaged, unskilled and uneducated South Africans, enabling them to find sustainable income-generating opportunities.
To this end, Out of the Box has acquired the help of an experienced upholstery teacher.
The centre does not, however, have the machines with which to teach people.
“A second-hand machine goes for around R6 000,” said Nina Venjakob, founder of Out of the Box.
“We are appealing to the community and local businesses to help us with funding for the purchase of machines.”
Out of the Box is also trying to make contact with Germiston businesses.
“Many businesses have problems with their BEE and ED scores, and we have an easy solution,” Venjakob said.
“Our waiting list of people wanting to learn skills and become self-sufficient is topping 7 000.
“By sponsoring our students you can earn fabulous scores and create futures.”
