Germiston cluster cracks down on illegal taverns

Police close illegal taverns in two informal settlements.

During a recenty Germiston SAPS cluster stations operation, which saw officers visit both the Delport and Marathon informal settlements, five illegal taverns were closed down.

Five men, aged between 22 and 49 years old, were arrested and charged with selling liquor without a licence.

“We appeal to the community to refrain from selling liquor illegally in the informal settlements; we will keep on conducting similar operations in the informal settlements in the hope that the level of crime will drop,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

All the suspects paid an admission of guilt fine before being released with a warning.
