Concerned parents demand a principal

A group of concerned parents marched from the local police station to hand over a memorandum to the School Governing Body and officials from the Gauteng Department of Education.

EDEN PARK – Many parents whose children attend Eden Park Primary School feel the school is like a kingdom without a king since the former principal I. de Vries left over a year ago.

A group of concerned parents, with the assistance of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), marched on Monday, September 14, from the local police station to the school to hand over a memorandum to the School Governing Body (SGB) and officials from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

The first memorandum from the parents was handed over on June 8 wherein parents demanded that a principal be appointed.

Interviews were conducted but no appointment was made and this has now frustrated many parents who fear that the Roodepoort Primary School scenario could surface in Eden Park.

The memorandum demanded clarity on what is causing the delay in appointing a new principal for the Eden Park Primary School that has since been under the leadership of two acting principals.

The memorandum also stated that there was a strong believe that the GDE was failing the parents by not finalising the appointment of a new principal.

This document was received and signed by the chairperson of the SGB, Hamilton Jacobs and JM Vilakazi from the Education Department.

Jacobs thanked the parents for their peaceful march and their patience so far concerning the appointment of a new principal. He promised the parents that a meeting will be convened between the SGB and the GDE. MAIL will publish more information on the story as it unfolds.
