A man and woman were arrested last Wednesday, October 7.
The two, who were arrested in the Makause informal settlement, were charged with the possession of copper cables.
The arrests were made during the Primrose police’s patrol of the informal settlement.
“Officers found a vehicle blocking one of the roads in the informal settlement.
“They approached the vehicle, to ask the driver to move it out of the way.
“To their surprise, some of the passengers in the vehicle got out and started running in different directions,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
Becoming suspicious the officers asked the driver and a female passenger to exit the vehicle and searched it.
During the search two dustbins (approximately 93.5kg) full of copper cables were found.
The driver and passenger failed to give a clear explanation as to where the copper cables had come from.
They were arrested, but were later released after they paid bail.
They are due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
