SAPS warn Spruitview residents after two murders
Katlehong SAPS have issued a “high-alert” warning to residents of Spruitview following the murder of two men in their homes less than 10 days apart.
In the first incident, which took place on October 17, a 59-year-old was shot and killed inside his home after unknown armed suspects raided his home.
Though details about the robbery are still sketchy, evidence gathered by police from the crime scene, indicate that the man and his family were surprised by the assailants while watching TV at around 8pm.
“After tying up members of the family, the men then bundled the goods they had looted from the house into the family’s vehicle,” explained Katlehong SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mega Ndobe.
However, before leaving the scene, the criminals fatally shot the husband and disappeared into the night.
The police are now puzzled by the similarities of another case, also in Spruiview, where a 60-year-old man was also shot dead during a robbery.
“We would like to alert residents of Spruitview to be watchful and alert at all times,” said Ndobe, who urged residents in the affluent residential area to be vigilant at all times.
Tips residents should take into consideration, especially at night, include:
* Be on the look-out for strange vehicles in your neighbourhood
* If you are followed, drive straight to the nearest police station
* Report any suspicious-looking persons or vehicles to the police
* Residents of Spruitview can contact the sector police vehicle on 071 756 6914.
